​Boon Yen, our newest addition, is a 59 year old female elephant and she settled into sanctuary life as if she has been with forever! She is super calm and cruisey, and has formed an amazing friendship with Wassana and Nong Fai so these three elephants are also together now as a mini herd.

Boon Yen's life is typical for many elephants her age. She worked in hard labour her whole life in the logging and riding industries. She actually has a visible shiny square hairless patch on her back from the saddle used for tourist rides.

As Boon Yen rehabilities and grows in confidence, her wonderful personality is also shining through and she is becoming rather bossy with Wassana! Boon Yen doesn't always like to bathe in the pond, yet Wassana adores the water. Boon Yen will often hit her trunk on the floor to tell Wassana not to leave her alone, but recently Wassana hangs around for a few minutes then slips into the pond to join Nong Fai for a swim! These three elephants are fun to watch. They can be drama queens, there's a lot happening between this wonderful trio of friendship, and we always say that elephants heal each other which is what is happening here. They are allowed to be together every day for probably the first time in their lives.

Wassana has certainly helped to settle Boon Yen in, and we love watching these gorgeous ladies trumpet, rumble, squeak and roar between themselves as they enjoy their new peaceful lives with us here at Hidden Forest. ​
